Xapien FAQs

Xapien at a glance

Xapien is a purpose-built AI-powered due diligence platform. It integrates into your workflow to offer a unique solution for third-party research.

It works by automating the process of researching and understanding people and companies, pulling together information from across the open web, news sources, corporate records, sanctions and watchlists, databases and more. Instead of analysts spending days or weeks manually piecing together profiles, Xapien delivers a clear, comprehensive report in minutes.

Organisations use Xapien to accelerate decisions in processes such as onboarding clients, suppliers and other third parties, approving deals and donors, hiring execs, and assessing suitability of partners. Xapien reduces risk by surfacing hidden connections, reputational issues, red flags and regulatory concerns, in relation to any and all third-parties. With Xapien, you can conduct thorough due diligence on any third party at speed.

Xapien is used to protect corporate reputations and remain compliant. Every client, partner, vendor or donor can be thoroughly checked in as little as a few minutes.

Whilst Xapien makes use of large language models and generative AI within its engine, the platform works very differently to ChatGPT and other general purpose AI tools.

Xapien is purpose-built for due diligence. It is designed to integrate seamlessly into a compliance workflow and is fully configurable according to your organisation’s risk policies. The platform researches and triangulates across structured data such as sanctions lists and unstructured data from the entire indexed internet. There’s no black box: every output is verified and fully sourced down to sentence level.

Identifying the right person or entity from the multitude of others that have the same or similar names is Xapien’s speciality, and generic AI models cannot match this level of specific identification and insight into your subject. Xapien can swiftly and effectively distinguish between individuals with the same or similar names across languages, and cutting-edge anti-hallucination tech provides an additional layer of reliability.

Generative AI models are prone to inconsistencies and hallucinations. Subtle changes in how you ask a question can lead to big changes in results, but consistency is vital for safety and compliance. By contrast, our pre-trained models ensure you get the same answers every time.

LLMs and GPTs are very powerful and are good at what they do, but they weren’t built for due diligence. If you’re interested in learning more about how Xapien works at a deeper level, and how it’s different from generic, generative AI, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team. We could honestly talk about this all day. Speak to us.

How does Xapien work?

Xapien isn’t a data company (we get asked this quite a bit). Xapien is an AI-powered due diligence platform that searches and reads open source content from the entire indexed internet, combined with commercial datasets and corporate registries to provide comprehensive background research reports on individuals and organisations. Our platform is designed to work across any commercial or open source dataset to ensure that we analyse the full suite of risks that your organisation cares about. We do integrate 0.5bn corporate records from international corporate registries, and data from leading pep/sanctions/watchlists screening providers, but we do so much more than that. We analyse and consolidate data from 35 trillion website pages – the entire indexed internet.

If you need Xapien to access specific datasets such as geo-specific registries, the chances are we can do this. Get in touch and let’s talk.

A report takes around 7 minutes on average. Our clients typically tell us that this equates to around 8 hours of analyst research time, so essentially each report gives you back a full day’s worth of working hours. That’s not to mention the additional time it would take to pull the research into a report and assess the level of risk. Xapien does the whole lot – it creates a complete, interrogatable, tailored risk report before your coffee has a chance to go cold. This empowers your team to move at the speed of enterprise without compromising on assurance.

Reports on individuals with common names often take longer (up to 20 minutes), as Xapien wants to make sure it sends relevant content only and discards false positives. Company reports can also typically take longer than reports on individuals as they often have larger online profiles.

Accuracy and next-generation entity resolution are at the core of our platform. Our engineers are continually refining Xapien to make it more accurate, comprehensive, fast, and scalable.

Using over 20 different AI models, Xapien identifies, researches, resolves, and clusters key events around specific “personas.” This cutting-edge approach ensures that information about people with similar or identical names is accurately separated, so you only see insights that truly relate to your subject. This dramatically reduces false positives, which are overwhelmingly caused by confusing one individual with another.

Every assertion is fully sourced so you can see where the information comes from and judge its credibility for yourself.

That said, no AI (or human) is 100% accurate and there will be times when we get it wrong. If ever this happens, please get in touch with your Customer Success manager directly so we can assess the problem and make improvements.

Xapien tackles false positives head on through its persona-based entity resolution, which separates and clusters information accurately to the right individual. This means individuals with the same or similar names will not be confused with one another.

In addition, Xapien’s Neural Risk Classifier understands context and language nuance. It can tell the difference between a “software trial” and a “court trial,” or whether someone is accused of wrongdoing versus simply commenting on it. By combining contextual understanding with persona-based resolution, Xapien minimises irrelevant noise and delivers the most accurate picture possible.

Coverage

Yes. Xapien works across 130+ languages. We use Google Translate for this (after evaluating 20 providers for their accuracy). The system runs our neural risk engine across all translated content to find risks that may only appear in non-English language results.

Absolutely. Our advanced language processing and resolution technologies mean we can find and read content about any subject in just about any language from the 3.5 trillion of webpages, 210 million of corporate records, thousands of news sites, global sanctions, PEPs and watchlists and various datasets that Xapien ingests. We translate whatever we find that is relevant to your subject back into English for you.

Yes. We include sanctions/PEPs & other watchlist screening as part of the subscription.

Where they’re publicly available, Xapien will provide URLs to social media profiles. However, these aren’t run through the NLP (Natural Language Processing) engine. This is because we know that our clients have different requirements when it comes to how deeply they need to scrutinise an individual’s personal and professional background, so we are conscious that we don’t wish to ‘overstep the line’ when it comes to personal social media accounts. Xapien users can of course view these pages themselves if they have the relevant permissions.

Privacy

The search screen is accessed through https, which is encrypted and secure. This is the same technology that online banking and payment providers use for transferring secure information.

The data is processed on our servers and is encrypted when at rest. We use AWS which provides significant protection for all processing. As Xapien searches the internet, there is no connection back to you – the traffic is ‘washed’ with the other reports we are running. The report is then viewed using https – again, encrypted.

We can set custom, automated retention and deletion policies for all our customers. Please let us know if you would like to do this.
